SII is currently shipping a "software only" solution for Wafer ID Reading, commonly known as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). With easy-to-plug-in libraries, SII adds high quality OCR functionality, virtually instantly , to any existing imaging hardware equipment/system.

The OCR library was designed with the following objectives:

• Performance. The OCR functionality has been reported by SII's customers to have outperformed all alternative vendors in the sense of minimal subsitution errors, especially with small and difficult-to-read wafer ids. SII's OCR includes a set of proprietary image processing algorithms that combat real-world corruption of the wafer id due to various semiconductor processes. Unlike other vendors who often adopt a generic document-based OCR for semiconductor wafer IDs, SII developed the wafer id reader in cooperation with a leading U.S. semiconductor equipment manufacturer for this specific application.
• Ease of use. Experienced with problems that are associated with large scale, complex system development/integration, SII is especially sensitive to the issue of minimally intrusive integration. SII's wafer id reader was designed with the objective of being able to be "instantly" plugged in by an average software engineer.
